"Individually we cannot change the world, but join together and we can"

WHO WE ARE.....

Do we not believe that everyone was born to be different, that everyone is born with a unique talent that they bring to the world? Why is it that so many cultures still see those born with different abilities as unable to contribute to their communities, unable to live their lives with independence, unable to love and be part of our social circles?

Here in Sri Lanka we have an education system which is highly regarded and every child is encouraged to work hard and gain good exam grades. The differently abled are no different whilst of school age, they are able to participate in school education like every other child, and many of them gain excellent grades. But once they leave school they have no prospects of gaining employment and everything they had learned becomes wasted as they are stuck at home, dependent on their families to provide for and support them. This is where their dreams end, their hopes of a life of independence, their talents wasting away from the world, their purpose ends.

SEDA was founded by a group of people who look into the eyes of differently abled young people and see a future the same as yours and mine, a future with love, friends, work, hope and dreams. In December 2013 this group of people got together, under the leadership of Mr E G F Keerthichandra, and put together a non profit charity that would genuinely work towards making a difference to the lives of the differently abled in Sri Lanka. SEDA, the Society for Empowering the Differently Abled, has big dreams to let communities see just what differently abled young people can achieve and contribute.

Our Mission

To develop differently abled persons through vocational Training and social integration.
To support families through specialist services, information and education
To advocate for equal opportunities, quality of life and their contribution to community.
